Governance & integrity

Policies & learner information

The key rules that govern how we train, assess and look after your information — in plain language. Full policy documents are available on request.

Assessment and appeals

Assessments are conducted by registered assessors against the published assessment criteria and are internally moderated. Evidence must be the learner’s own work, confirmed by a signed declaration of authenticity.

A learner may appeal any assessment decision in writing to the Tonex Quality Assurance Officer within ten working days. An assessor who was not involved in the original decision reviews the evidence, and the outcome is given within fifteen working days. Appealing costs nothing and carries no prejudice. If an appeal cannot be resolved to the satisfaction of all parties, it is referred to the QCTO, whose decision is final.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

RPL is available for access and for credit in line with the QCTO RPL policy. Applications must be made before the programme starts.

Privacy and personal information (POPIA)

We process personal information to register, train, assess and certify learners and to report enrolments and results to the QCTO and SETAs as required by law. We collect only what we need, keep identity documents and sensitive information encrypted, and limit access to staff allocated to a learner’s programme. Learner and assessment records are kept for the period required for QCTO record-keeping.

You may ask to see or correct your information, or object to processing where the law allows, by contacting our Information Officer at skills@tonexms.co.za. You may also lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.

Learner conduct

Learners agree to a learner agreement and code of conduct when they enrol, signed online in the Tonex Learning Portal. It covers attendance, honesty in assessments, respectful behaviour, and the use of Tonex facilities and systems.

Fees, cancellations and refunds

Fees, payment terms, cancellation and re-assessment terms are set out in your quotation or registration form. Please ask us if anything is unclear before you enrol.
